The Last Few Weeks
I’ll be honest - I just had a spell of about 2-3 weeks which weren’t my best.
I’ve been in a rut.
Unmotivated.
Unproductive.
Undisciplined.
I haven’t been ticking off habits, I haven’t felt focused, and honestly, I’ve been drifting a bit.
There’s been a lot going on lately - celebrations, managing my business, family things. The list goes on. And while that’s all part of life, I found myself eating badly, having more alcohol than normal (due to the celebrations!), moving less, sleeping worse, and feeling flat.
And that spiral hit every area: my productivity, my focus, my drive.
So, last Sunday, I decided to stop overthinking it and just get back to basics.
Back to Basics: The Strategy That’s Helping Me Rebuild
When you feel stuck, you don’t need a massive overhaul - you need small, consistent wins that rebuild momentum.
With that in mind, here’s exactly what I’ve been doing to rebuild consistency from scratch:
Revisit My “Why”
I looked at my goals again and reminded myself why they matter.
What do I want to achieve.
Who do I want to be.
Where do I want to be in a year’s time.
For me it wasn’t about rewriting my goals, I needed to reconnect with them.
Simplify the Habits
I cut everything down to what was achievable, not what looked “perfect”.
Instead of trying to do 10 things a day, I focused on 5 daily non-negotiables that were achievable, small steps to give me momentum.
Movement of some kind (workout / cardio / walk)
7-8 hours of sleep
Take my morning supplement
10 minutes of meditation
Following a controlled diet.
As the weeks go on I can build more into this but for now it works and I’m achieving these every day.
Cut the Alcohol
This one was huge. The celebrations were fun but the after-effects were killing my energy and motivation.
Taking a couple of weekends off from drinking completely changed things. I’ve had more clarity, better workouts, and sharper focus during the day. It’s pretty crazy how much weekends like that can impact your week days!
If you’re not feeling your best, conduct an energy audit and look at what might be draining it.
Tracking Habits Daily
I went back to a simple tracker - literally in my Notes app. Every day I tick off the core habits I listed out above.
That small act of tracking keeps me honest, even on a small scale, and create momentum.
Review Goals and Habits Each Evening
Each evening, I ask:
Did I follow through on all my habits today?
If not, why?
What’s one thing I can do better tomorrow?
This tiny review helps me stay conscious of my effort, not just my results. Remember, it’s your habits that will move your forward to your goals.
Top Tip: Setting a reminder for 8pm each night was a huge win for me - I never forget to do my evening reflection.
The Framework: Building Consistency From Scratch
If you’re also feeling like you’ve slipped lately, here’s the simple structure I’m using to get back on track:
Step 1: Reconnect to your “why”
When motivation fades, your “why” keeps you consistent.
Step 2: Identify your 3-5 non-negotiables
Keep them small and achievable. The goal is momentum, not perfection.
Step 3: Track them daily
Use Notes, a planner, or even pen and paper. Tick the box, get the dopamine hit.
Step 4: Review every evening
Reflect on what worked, what didn’t, and one small thing to improve tomorrow.
Remember: Eliminate friction
Remove what’s making your habits harder - late nights, clutter, distractions, or yes… alcohol.
Final Thought
Falling off track doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means you’re human.
Consistency isn’t about never slipping. It’s about having a system that helps you recover faster each time you do.
Follow the simple steps above and you’ll get yourself on the right track.
